How to Change Your MSN Scene
To change your MSN scene on MSN  2009, simply click on the top right corner of your main MSN window and a dialogue with the built in scenes will appear, choose one and click apply. To use custom ones, you click on the “Browse” button, select a 600x90px image and confirm (note that images of different size won’t look good). Your friends that you are chatting with are going to see the same scene that u choose to use.

On Windows Live Messenger 2011 it’s basically the same, except that you have to right click on your main MSN window and click “Change your theme” to pop up the option dialog.
